A Few Good Books

The Very Hungary Caterpillar

By: Eric Carle

This is my favorite book to use because I read this book when I was in school. A very hungry caterpillar hatches from an egg, eats holes through many kinds of food and turns into a butterfly. Eric Carle's illustrations are bold and vivid. The caterpillar's story is simple and informative on counting. Toddlers and preschoolers can learn counting and days of the week from this popular children's picture book. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is one of my favorite children's books.

 Words Are Not for Hurting

By: Elizabeth Verdick

Children learn that their words belong to them: They can think before they speak, then choose what to say and how to say it. The book makes the connection between hurtful words and feelings of anger, sadness, and regret. It introduces positive ways for children to respond when others say mean or unkind words to them. And it reinforces the importance of saying “I’m sorry,” two little words that can be a big help. Includes activities and discussion starters that parents, caregivers, and educators can use when working with children.
